-"Battlespace" returning to more of its simulator roots from Classic, really a place to practice not advance. I know this will make some of you happy in that advancing will only happen in "real" space not instant action type playing. I still hope to have some achievements/leader board materials form here but not likely to have any equipment or pilot advancing type effects.
-Lots of work on missions. With the new design team map layouts, mission stories, the types of things you do in missions, etc is all MUCH more interesting and varied than ever before. The kinds of things we can now do is very advanced.
-Better faction definition. The stories in the game really tell all about your faction and why you are at war with the others. The story is also darker than before with many of the missions you fly feeling more gray than the typical black and white always doing the good thing type story.
-PvP. Lots and lots of work on systems for PvP, new maps, new game play, new forms of advancement, player built battle stations, capturing sectors, etc. The scope and feel of the massive space battles you will be taking part in against other players will be, IMHO, what really sets us apart.
-AI functionality. Tons of work on making the AI both the right difficulty (it was way to easy before) and also varied in behavior.
This is kind of old news, but may have slipped the radar for those of you who aren't actively reading the DoW II forums. With the release of Chaos Rising, all leaderboard stats, including your Race Rank (which gives the purely aesthetic armor unlocks for various units), will be reset UNLESS you have played a ranked match with any race between October 14th 2009 and March 11th 2010. The only reason I have posted this is because Relic/THQ chose not to mass email this info to people with DoW II accounts.
So tl;dr PLAY A RANKED GAME if you treasure your Ork spikes, Eldar horns, Space Marine shoulderpads, or Tyranid fangs that you worked so hard to unlock in the past!
It looks like BFBC2 has shattered all records of previous battlefield games... and in the process shattered their servers trying to deal with the load. Things look to be getting better as this launch continues, and hopefully we can look forward to our own server soon!
We have a solid US group that is bagging the gold squad star almost every game, so if you have been sitting on the fence with this game, think about picking it up! It really has that classic Battlefield feel, the graphics are beautiful, and the game modes keep you on the edge of your seat. This game will be my stand in FPS for the next 6 months!
Today sees the release of much needed 5 man content for Star Trek Online. The title is 'The Infected '
In "Infected," you'll travel to the Sibiran system to investigate Starbase 82, a Federation space station that has ceased communicating with Starfleet. As you arrive, you're in for a true nightmare scenario: The Borg have taken Starbase 82, and are in the process of assimilating the people aboard!
As you investigate the station, an acquaintance from your past is looking forward to greeting you in an epic encounter that will require skill, teamwork and maybe a little bit of luck to survive.
The "Infected" is designed and scaled for a 5 Captain away team and requires a coordinated effort to survive the challenges of the episode. No Bridge Officers are allowed on the ground portions of this mission.
Quick "Infected" Facts
Klingon and Federation players both have access to this Special Task Force once they reach level 45.
It is a daily repeatable mission from the time the mission is taken.
Special Mark X gear that can be used by either faction drops in the mission.
Mission success against bosses provides Marks of Valor, which will be valuable for a special gear store coming in the 45-day update.
The Federation and Klingon Empire are now tentatively working together to fight the Borg and can be on the same Deepspace encounter maps against the Borg.
I'll be writing a short review on this in the coming days.
